Podcasts For When You Need Motivation
Are you a podcast listener? I am! I find them so helpful for when I’m driving, cooking or ironing and want something to listen to while I work.
They mean that I can learn something new, feel motivated and ready to take on a new challenge, or simply relax whilst I’m doing something else, and they also provide a bit of “company” when I’m at home on my own. Working from home has many perks but colleagues aren’t one of them!
I have already posted about my favourite podcasts for self care, and today I’m focusing on the ones that give me a kick up the bum and get me moving.
Sara Tasker is a gentle motivator, I’ll admit, but so often I find myself inspired and motivated by her interviews and topics covered. This is a great podcast if you have a creative business or are a geek about Instagram, as Sara is too! I really identify with a lot of what Sara talks about, as a business owner with a chronic health condition, and her gentle approach works for me, showing me that there are ways to take my business forwards and build what I love.
A favourite episode- Instagram Truth vs Instagram Reality with The Slow Traveler
Happier with Gretchen Rubin
I love the dynamic between Gretchen (super focused and high achieving) and her laid back sister Liz. I have read three of Gretchen’s books on happiness and habits and find them useful in their own ways but it’s their podcast that I get most from. I don’t agree with some of the diet discussion that seems to come round (but that’s when I simply skip forwards) but her Four Tendencies framework has given me a new appreciation of my own strengths and areas for development, and I’m eternally grateful for that. (I’m a Rebel in case you know what I’m talking about, and are wondering!)

The Amber Lilyestrom Show
Amber is an American business coach and I’m a big fan of her clear and honest way of speaking, on her podcast and her social channels. She always makes me want to do more, have bigger dreams and makes me believe that it’s possible for me too. The thing that comes across time and time again is that Amber loves women, builds them up and believes in them. That’s powerful stuff.
A favourite episode- Kendrick Shope on the Service of Selling
Morning Sunshine with Jillian Bolanz
I have never come across anyone with as much energy as Jillian, and that comes across in every episode of Morning Sunshine. I love her woo woo ways, I love how much she wants for every single listener and I especially love the way she interviews. Jillian asks really deep and soulful questions, and gets so much back from her interviewees. I always come away with a greater understanding of myself, as they share their stories.
A favourite episode- Episode 79- Tory Dube and Creating Emotional Agility
Free to Flourish Radio
I’m biased because I have worked with Gemma and found her to be the most incredibly caring cheerleader for me and my business, but I adore her podcast too. Some of Gemma’s best episodes are the short ones, as she can pack so much motivation, inspiration and clarity into a few minutes. I don’t know how she does it.
A favourite episode- Episode 49 3 Things That Are Holding You Back
Letters from a Hopeful Creative
I often find myself scribbling notes as I listen to Letter from a Hopeful Creative, or going back and listening again, which is rare for me. The conversations that Sara Tasker and Jen Carrington have are interesting to me, both because of the topics they cover and their dynamic. I have lots in common with both of them in terms of beliefs, goals and how I approach work but I often have a light bulb moment with the way they word something. The topics that they cover (from the letters they receive) are always something that I can relate to as a creative small business owner, and it’s a favourite to play whilst I’m doing admin or other simple work tasks to give me a boost of motivation and positivity.
A favourite episode- Let’s Talk About Comparison
I hope that you’ve discovered a new podcast or two in this list and, if you have, check out the episodes I’ve recommended. They’re all great starting points to get to know the shows and hosts a little better.
